Job Description / Desired Qualifications:
THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT THE CANDIDATE HAS A JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN LICENSE AND BE CERTIFIED IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA.
A Lighting Specialist is a professional responsible for evaluating and designing NEC lighting solutions for outdoor settings, including residential, commercial and industrial customers.
Expertise in lighting technology, design principles, and energy efficiency are desirable.
Responsibilities:
Internal Partner and Vendor Consultation:
Collaborate with Lighting Services Sales, NEC Lighting Construction Coordinators, Lighting Services NESC engineers, Power Delivery partners, ALDOT, outside engineering firms, architects, lighting vendors, and contractors to provide support in developing pricing for lighting proposals and design prints and material lists for construction after successful sales.
Lighting Design:
Create customized lighting plans to electrically serve NEC designs that meet aesthetic and functional requirements as per the photometrics supplied by Lighting Service Sales and/or Vendors.
Product Selection:
Partner with Sales and vendors to recommend and specify appropriate lighting fixtures, lamps, and controls based on the project’s design concept and budget.
Lighting Calculations:
Perform voltage drop calculations to determine optimal wire, cable, and breaker/fuse loading as per NEC while working under the direction of our Master Electricians.
Compliance:
Ensure that lighting designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including energy codes, safety guidelines, and accessibility requirements.
Budget Management:
Provide cost estimates for lighting projects.
Work within budget constraints while delivering high-quality lighting solutions.
Project Documentation:
Create detailed lighting plans, technical drawings, and specifications for contractors and installers to follow during the construction phase.
Product Knowledge:
Stay updated on the latest lighting products, technologies, and trends.
Evaluate and recommend new lighting products for use in projects.
Site Visits:
Conduct on-site evaluations to assess existing lighting conditions and gather information for retrofit or renovation projects.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with electrical engineers, contractors, and other professionals involved in the project to ensure seamless implementation.
Technology Integration:
Incorporate smart lighting systems, automation, and controls where appropriate to enhance user experience.
Qualifications:
Education: A Journeyman License in the State of Alabama is required.
Experience:
Experience in lighting design and implementation, preferably in residential, commercial, or industrial, athletic field lighting, and interstate lighting desirable.
Technical Knowledge:
Comprehensive understanding or the NEC code book required.
Comprehensive understanding or the ability to learn of lighting principles, photometrics, lighting controls, and emerging lighting technologies desired.
Software Proficiency:
Proficiency in AutoCAD or Blue Beam, and other relevant design tools, desired.
Communication:
Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written -to effectively convey design concepts, lighting options, and benefits to clients and project teams.
Project Management:
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous attention to detail for precise calculations, layouts, and specifications.
Team Collaboration:
The ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams and stakeholders.
Work schedule:
Monday – Friday 8:00 – 5:00 or 7:00 – 4:00 CST at the manager’s discretion.
