JOB SUMMARY:
A Distribution Engineering Associate is an important part of the engineering team, contributing to the planning and management of distribution systems.

A Distribution Engineering Associate is an entry-level position in the field of electrical engineering, focused on assisting in the design, planning, and management of electrical distribution systems.
These professionals work under the guidance of experienced engineers to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable distribution of electrical power.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in Distribution System Design:
Collaborate with senior engineers to design, plan, and optimize electrical distribution systems.
Help create detailed drawings and plans for distribution infrastructure.
Data Collection:
Collect and analyze data related to the distribution network, including load data, system performance data, and asset information.
Use data to assist in decision-making.
Equipment Selection:
Assist in the selection and specification of distribution equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and protective devices, considering voltage levels and load requirements.
Safety and Compliance
Ensure that distribution system designs and plans comply with safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry codes. Assist in obtaining regulatory approvals.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of distribution equipment and infrastructure.
Update documentation and drawings to reflect changes and upgrades.
Project Support:
Provide support to senior engineers and project managers in the execution of distribution infrastructure projects.
Assist in project planning, budgeting, and coordination.
Emergencies and Outages:
Assist in responding to emergency situations, such as power outages or equipment failures.
Collaborate with the team to help restore power quickly.
Software Tools:
Become proficient in distribution system design software, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, and power system simulation software used in the industry.
Technical Learning:
Continuously learn and stay up-to-date with developments in electrical distribution engineering, including new technologies and industry trends.
Communication:
Collaborate effectively with team members, engineers, and other stakeholders.
Clearly convey information and updates on projects and tasks.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field is typically required.
Some positions may consider candidates with an associate degree or relevant coursework.
Professional Development:
Entry-level engineers may be encouraged to work toward obtaining a professional engineering license (PE) or other certifications as they gain experience.
Technical Skills:
Basic knowledge of distribution system design principles and electrical engineering concepts.
Familiarity with CAD software and tools used in the industry.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience for an Engineer, Engineer Associate or Engineering Representative position:
Engineer and Engineering Associate:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (From ABET Accredited School)
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology
Bachelor’s Degree in Math or Science
Professional Engineer’s License (PE) in lieu of the above bachelor’s degree
Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus
Distribution and or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus
Engineering Representative:
Experience in Utility industry or related field
2- 4 year degree from Accredited School a plus
Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus
Distribution and or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proficient with MS office products and other related engineering Software systems highly desired.
Strong Technical Engineering Skills and understanding of Power Systems are highly desired
Candidate should possess knowledge of general engineering and construction principles.
Knowledge of electrical system operations, distribution systems, underground and overhead construction practices.
Prior experience in writing and executing switching orders preferred.
Knowledge of the Franchise Manual, Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, Metering Blue Book, Consistency Manual and the Financial and Business goals preferred
Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results.
Ability to work with customers and others as a team member.
Must be able to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with customers, engineers, customer service, sales, corporate partners and line crew personnel.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Good Attitude and Ability to provide excellent customer service both internally and externally
Working knowledge of NESC.
Must have valid driver’s license
