Job Description

Immediate W2 contract position available in Forest Part, GA.
Estimated Duration: 15 months

Job Summary:
  • This role focuses on developing and maintaining data-driven tools and dashboards to support decision-making within Engineering. The position requires strong technical skills in data manipulation and visualization, along with a solid understanding of business performance metrics and utility operations.

  • Acquires data from primary or secondary data sources and maintains databases/data systems.
  • Filters and cleans data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
  • Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports.

Preferred Experience/Skills:
  • A degree in an analytical field is preferred. Some examples include, but are not limited to, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in developing data manipulation scripts, Power BI dashboards, low-code applications, web applications, desktop applications, and / or internal adaptive web applications for generation and presentation of business performance metrics is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Palantir Foundry.
  • Experience with languages such as SQL, Python, and/or Spark is required.
  • Knowledge of electric utility power transmission lines / substation engineering business and overall technical shared services knowledge or applicable relevant industry knowledge is a plus.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with a natural curiosity and a desire to learn.
  • Experience coordinating multiple requests and ensuring goals and objectives are met
  • Demonstrate organizational and planning skills.
  • Experience manipulating large datasets and databases with working knowledge of big data and data management technologies, data management is a plus.
  • Proficiency with standard business and analytics software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel) is required.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as Azure is a plus.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of data modeling, data integration and visualization techniques is required.
Major Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop dashboards as requested to provide management with necessary information to make well informed decisions.
  • Develop SQL or Spark scripts to pull in the appropriate data to the dashboards.
  • Assess and implement process improvements and best practices.
  • Provide formal and informal training to department end users around data visualization and analysis.
  • Monitor and maintain dashboards to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Respond to data requests from engineering leadership.
  • Other projects & ad hoc reporting as needed.
  • Support critical, high-visibility projects that demand specialized data analytics or unique reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a point of contact for Engineering Customers to support collaborative data reporting requirements as needed for financial, regulatory, inventory management or related needs.

Tasks (-> indicates after some time to settle in):
  • Fulfill one-time ad-hoc data requests
  • Create and maintain development (proof of concept) dashboards as needed using manual exports until infrastructure is fully operational
    • Example: Maintain Accelerated Projects Excel file until Databricks is up and running
  • Gain understanding of a couple of datasets to expedite projects. Focus on dashboards utilizing those datasets -> Gain understanding of all data sets and focus wherever needed
  • Assist in creating production dashboards -> Create dashboards
  • Assist in developing production SQL or Spark scripts to pull data into the dashboards -> Write scripts
  • Assist in creating custom web application pages -> Create simple web application pages
