Immediate W2 contract position available in Birmingham, AL / Hybrid.
Estimated Duration:12 months
Work Location: This position will be based out of the client’s corporate headquarters and requires a mix of both field and office work.
Office work can be performed remotely (Telework/work from home) with the expectation that you can successfully telework and are willing to travel to work and/or field location on a routine (to be determined) on an as-needed basis.

Job Summary:
  • The position is responsible for producing civil grading design drawings for transmission projects in Alabama and Mississippi.
  • The successful candidate will also provide support in the following areas: provide technical support and design direction to technicians. Interface with other departments to assure accurate project scoping, develop best practice designs, and provide field support for the transmission substation projects.
  • This position will require some field visits and may involve occasional overnight travel (approximately 25%) and will require the ability to work successfully in a remote/virtual environment with access to internet service when not in the office.
Desired Qualifications:
  • The Sitework Designer 2/3 position requires 5-10 years of related experience and a technical degree preferred.
  • Job responsibilities include producing 3D models and design drawings for sitework grading and drainage, preparing layouts and conceptual designs, reviewing vendor drawings, and preparing material takeoffs and assist with cost estimates.
  • This position requires travel 25% of the time.
  • Skillsets and expertise required for this position include knowledge of using AutoCAD, 3D modeling experience is preferred, knowledge of environmental regulations such as Ga-EPD, ADEM, MDEQ, and Florida DEP, and the ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors.
Major Job Responsibilities Include:
  • Prepare layouts and conceptual design in support of lead design engineers.
  • Design Civil projects with limited supervision for electrical substations.
  • Ability to work proficiently both as part of a team and independently.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability to review and evaluate the work of other group designers and drafters involved in the design of civil projects.
  • Ability to develop project or task scope definitions, provide schedule input, prepare material takeoffs and assist with cost estimates.
  • Provide support for all construction activities related to the civil aspects of electrical substations.
  • Coordinate work with other internal design groups, external clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and assignments to meet defined schedules and deliverables.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • High School graduate of equivalent required.
  • Technical training or certifications preferred.
  • Autodesk certification preferred.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil site drafting and design required.
  • Solid experience in grading design, erosion control design, hydrology and storm water design is required.
  • Prior experience in construction estimating and construction administration is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Very experienced user of current version of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Proficient in the design of grading, drainage, erosion control and stormwater management.
  • General knowledge of Federal, State, and local permitting within Alabama.
  • Ability to process and implement survey data to create 2D/3D surfaces and contours.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office products such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Good technical writing skills.
