Immediate 12+ months position available in Birmingham, AL.
Job Responsibilities:
Works directly and indirectly with other drafters, designers and operating company personnel to prepare specifications and drawings for the construction and maintenance departments.
Supports engineers and/or designers with design deliverables that support the installation, operation, and maintenance of high voltage transmission facilities (poles, towers, conductors, etc.).
Sound judgment is a must.
Prepares critical detailed schematic drawings to visually communicate to line crews what work will be required on various project types.
As schedule permits, 5% of time in the field and 95% of time in the office.
Office work consists of communicating via email and phone with teammates, attending departmental meetings, performing calculations, and creating and reviewing plans/drawings.
Works forty hours per week with overtime as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum 5 years previous drafting experience using AutoCAD with specific use of AutoCAD 2016-2021 or AutoCad Civil desired.
Computer skills – proficient with standard office software applications and able to adapt quickly to HVTL application software.
Work experience in support of Transmission Line Design is preferred.
Past utility experience is a plus, with emphasis on past transmission or distribution electric utility experience.
Experience providing drafting support to engineers/designers is a plus.
Experience supporting large projects is a plus.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to manage time supporting multiple projects with competing deadlines and priorities.
Ability to work in a team environment, and build relationships with peers, internal customers and the general public.
Ability to collaborate and learn/share best practices, issues and solutions.
Special Notes:
2 year technical degree or 2-3 yrs work experience (Civil design preferred, Mechanical and Electrical design will be considered).
Proficiency in AutoCAD 2023, basic math and some manual drafting.
Demonstrated experience with standard office applications.
Possess a strong work ethic.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Analytical skills to anticipate and identify problems in drafting applications.
Ability to multitask or manage and prioritize drafting requests from numerous team members.
Leadership skills.
